Tricks & Tips FREE

The internet still has the ability to blow me away. Here is a whole book from Animation Mentor founder Shawn Kelly (Transformers, Star Wars, etc) that you can download in PDF form FREEEEEEE! Freeee I tells ya!!! Theres animation goooold in them thar hills!!!!!

Any Southbank second year animation students who don't download this and gobble this up are in serious danger of recieving a wedgie, or at least one hell of an ear bashing. >:)

I'm with Mitch. The more I know the better. Oh and I have a question for you Ian. My Dad really wants me to have degree in animation but how much difference does it make to have a diploma instead of a degree in the animation business? Although I don't really have to worry about this for a bit, I was just curious

Hey Ian. Methinks, they're trying to steal your animation zombie slave army from TAFE. Cos it's 10 pages of sell, sell, cel, before we get any tips!

First tip: turn to page 10.

Dana - I love your question, and feel a rant coming on. I'll answer in a new post :)

Frank - Loosing students to Animation Mentor isn't high on my list of risks :) You have to put up with this stuff for the free stuff I guess.

You'd have to say that this text is a 'must read*' for any animation student. *also try to remember and apply some of the stuff you read.

But, in particular, if you harbor dreams of working in the feature film business, let's say at Pixar maybe?...
(Search for this post on the ARC:http://animationresourcecentre.blogspot.com/2008/01/nice-story.html), then getting into the Animation Mentor course is a 'way'.

And, if that is the case, reading/ studying the tips and tricks of one of the founders is probably a really good idea before you apply.

I definately didn't mean to imply that only 2nd year students should download it. I just singled them out because there are some section specific to 3D and they have gotten more into that. There is no doubt that everyone should read it :)

Oooo *has downloaded* I think I might ask dad to print this out for me. *ponders* yes..yes indeed.

I just read the two articles about arcs. How he moves from the hips throught the body to the tip of Yoda's light sabre.

You have to dig through a bit of fried chicken and "ooh look I have a signature alcoholic drink based on an immature cola palate" wafflery.

But when you find the animation bits it's all very interesting,... and then I found myself out on a hot date last night, at the Alto bar in the Powerhouse at New Farm, with an Audrey Hepburn doppelgenger, but I was looking past this goddess and out the window at how the branches and leaves were moving in the wind. I was looking at the arcs and figures of eight.

Luckily goddesses are forgiving.
