Popeye the Sailor and the Rotograph

I found these clips from old Popeye shows interesting because they use one of the first camera devices built to create the illusion of depth in 2d animation. It was called The rotograph, and it was invented by animator Max Fleischer in 1936. It looks great!

I'd like to dedicate this post to 1st year student Stephen who when traveling home with a few other students on Thursday fended off an attack by loony with a knife. I'm not kidding! Lucky for us (and Stephen) he had been eating his spinach.
