Fosters Blog

Lots of people who are involved with making animated TV shows run blogs these days. I visit the Pocoyo blog all the time. One problems with them is that the people making them are often to busy to post often, so sometimes it better when you come across them later, that way there is plenty of new stuff to read and look at. FOSTER'S HOME FOR IMAGINARY FRIENDS is my favorite cartoon network show at the moment (based on what little Cartoon Net stuff I get to see) and was also my favorite show to animate for (nice simple designs). Here is the official blog, there hasn't been anything posted since early August so maybe its done now, but if you rummage through the earlier posts there are some great preliminary sketches and stuff.

Ian! You worked on Fosters??? REALLY??!!! Oh wow, that's so cool! Could you tell us the actual way they do the animation? Is it handdrawn? Coz when i look at it it looks super smooth... is it Flash? is it toon rendered? i just love the style! and and and... could you tell us which bits you've animated?? how do you do the animation up here in brissie? do they do it all over the internet? or are they located nearby?? do they have a studio n stuff? omg too many questions...

Its flash animation, but believe it or not the ads that were animated in Australia were totally hand drawn because Animal Logic (who had the contract with Cartoon Net) couldn't find flash animators good enough in Sydney to do it. (Don’t know how hard they looked though, Kristi (SBIT "FRIEND") may have some goss on that she works there...Kristi?).
So we were doing full traditional animation (which took twice as long) and trying to make it look like Flash. Very silly. Even I could have had a go in flash, but the decision not to bother and just use traditional for everything had already been made by the time they added me to the payroll.

I like that show, and another one called YOUNG EINSTEINS (I THINK that's it)... great Flash-y animation!
