New Millenium Muybridge - Movement Reference

Go to the BBC!

The BBC Motion Gallery is an excellent resource for video referencing all types of movement. Things like: butterflies landing on a crocodile's head, scurrying rats, Muhammad Ali boxing (speaking of butterflies) ...

Tiji

This ad for a French childrens TV station is pretty much a short film in its own right. Very nice.

Zdenek Miler and the Mole

Back when I first started blogging I would often stumble across great animation from my childhood. These days, after almost three years of rummaging around the net for blog content, its rare to find such things. But thanks to the awesome Drawn blog I have found one more, I have very vague memories of these cartoons from Czechoslovakian Zdenek Miler.

The backgrounds are simply stunning and hint at Milers background as an illustrator. The second episode featured here seems quite risque and graphic for a kids show, but it probably just goes to show how sanitised things are these days. It is quite bizarre.

Rabit?

I wish my Internet connection was this fast :)

Nick Germany

Some very cool promos for Nick Toons Germany, from a studio called Dyrdee Media. Animated in After Effects me thinks.

Injustice

A cool ad for Oxfam. The producers, Passion Pictures have heaps of other interesting work up at their website too.

Louie's Lunch

Friend of the ARC, old friend of mine and compositer at Krome, Kristi sent me this link. Her cousin wrote it and may have produced it too. Its pretty good, very good even by Australian standards. Made by a studio I know little about called Sticky Pictures.

Those of us out here at the animation capital of the universe Caboolture have torn through our broadband quota at record speed this month (dam long weekend), so I may not be linking to many films until next month, but hopefully I can find some other interesting things to post :).

Being Ian: Canadian Flash!

Check out Ian's bedroom Being a student is great. It allows some afternoon time to watch... er, um ... study classic cartoons on community TV. Or to watch kid's TV on ABC.

I 'studied' the show "Being Ian" episode 33; 'Being Principal Bill', yesterday afternoon. The story line for that episode is based on the film 'Being John Malkovich' But what really caught my mixing 2D and 3D for good effectattention was the use of mixed 2D and 3D animation to good effect in the opening scene where the main character is day dreaming.

Some other reasons to check out the web site for animation students are:

  • the web site design using Flash animation (an animated web site is an effective way to promote the skills of an animator);

  • there is some information about portfolio production tips for applying for a job at Studio B who produce the 'Being Ian' series (and Clash of Titans... George of the Jungle)

The Magical Amount

A nice old school animation anti smoking ad.

Few that's a mouth full.

Digital Old School

The TV stations are all Digital this and Digital that at the moment. Trying to milk as much excitement as the can out of the fact that they will be showing the same old stuff but with more pixels.

This is easily the best promo I've seen for Digital telly. For those of you under the age of 20 that's Max Headroom, and he was a "computer generated" ( I suspect a guy with make up on super imposed on a computer background) TV personality in the 80's.

Pedro & Frankensheep

The Brothers McLeod have been making animation for the wibbly web for some time now. They featured in an earlier post here. Now they have made a show for the BBC, and here is one of the episodes.

Chez Eddy

Check out the web site of animation studio Chez Eddy, there are a whole bunch of interesting animated treats in the "selection" section.
